Description

A comforting classic featuring tender sliced beef, caramelized onions, and gooey provolone cheese, perfect for family dinners or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs partially frozen bottom round roast
  • 1 onion (thinly sliced)
  • 6 footlong bread rolls
  • 10 slices provolone cheese
  • 1/2 Tbsp baking soda
  • 2 Tbsp vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 Tbsp garlic salt
  • 1/2 Tbsp onion powder
  • 2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Prep the Beef: Begin by taking your partially frozen bottom round roast and slicing it thinly against the grain.
  2. Sauté the Onions: In a large skillet over medium heat, add a drizzle of olive oil and toss in the sliced onion. Sauté until they become soft and golden—about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Cook the Beef: Add the sliced beef to the skillet along with the baking soda, vinegar, sugar, garlic salt, onion powder, black pepper, and salt. Stir well to combine.
  4. Add Water and Worcestershire Sauce: Pour in the 2 cups of water and 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, stirring to combine. Let the beef simmer for about 10-15 minutes.
  5. Melt the Cheese: Once the beef is tender, add the provolone cheese and cover the skillet with a lid to allow it to melt.
  6. Assemble the Sandwiches: Slice the footlong bread rolls lengthwise and fill each with a generous helping of the cheesy beef mixture.
  7. Serve and Enjoy: Serve your Philly Cheesesteaks warm, and enjoy every gooey, savory bite!

Notes

Feel free to customize by adding sautéed peppers or mushrooms, or by using different cheeses.
