Description
Creamy layers of potatoes, cheese, and onions create an indulgent dish that feels like a warm hug on a plate.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 large potatoes, sliced
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or Gruyère)
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- 1 teaspoon fresh thyme or rosemary (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Grease a baking dish with butter, ensuring that it’s well-coated to prevent sticking and enhance the flavor.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the dish, followed by half of the sliced onions. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and optional herbs for an extra burst of flavor.
- Pour half of the heavy cream over the potatoes, letting it seep into the layers to create that creamy texture.
- Add half of the cheese, sprinkling it generously over the cream for melty goodness.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining ingredients—more potatoes, onions, cream, and cheese.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes; this steams the potatoes and helps them cook thoroughly.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly—a beautiful sight to behold!
- Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving, letting the flavors meld together and making it easier to serve.
