Description

A comforting dish featuring tender layers of potatoes in a creamy cheese sauce, perfect for chilly evenings or holiday gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley or dill for garnish
  • Butter for greasing the baking dish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Grease a baking dish generously with butter, ensuring it’s well-coated.
  3. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the dish, followed by half of the chopped onion and garlic. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  4. Pour half of the heavy cream over the layers, followed by half of the shredded cheese.
  5. Repeat the layering process with the remaining potatoes, onion, garlic, salt, pepper, cream, and cheese.
  6. Cover the dish tightly with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  7. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, until the top is golden and bubbly.
  8. Allow it to cool slightly, garnish with fresh herbs, and serve warm.

Notes

You can assemble the dish a day ahead and store it in the fridge. Mix different types of cheese for added flavor.
