- 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley or dill for garnish
- Butter for greasing the baking dish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Grease a baking dish generously with butter, ensuring it’s well-coated.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the dish, followed by half of the chopped onion and garlic. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
- Pour half of the heavy cream over the layers, followed by half of the shredded cheese.
- Repeat the layering process with the remaining potatoes, onion, garlic, salt, pepper, cream, and cheese.
- Cover the dish tightly with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Allow it to cool slightly, garnish with fresh herbs, and serve warm.
Notes
You can assemble the dish a day ahead and store it in the fridge. Mix different types of cheese for added flavor.
