- 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- Cooked rice for serving
- Green onions and parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the flour, stirring constantly to make a roux; cook for about 5-7 minutes until it turns a light brown color.
- Add the chopped onion, bell pepper, and celery and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Gradually whisk in the chicken broth, Cajun seasoning, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes.
- Add the shrimp and simmer until cooked through, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the heavy cream and heat through.
- Serve the etouffee over rice and garnish with green onions and parsley.
